Cosmetic Acupuncture

I had the wonderful experience of having cosmetic acupuncture done by my lovely acupuncturist Adina of A & T Pain Solutions.

Here is a bit of context as to why cosmetic acupuncture is so popular. As we get older, our skin begins to go through a lot of changes and ages. Various factors play a part in our skin aging: exposure to the sun and UV rays (make it a habit to wear and re-apply sunscreen daily!) , smoking, sleep deprivation, stress, etc. Skin fragility means that we get wrinkles, droopy skin, fine lines, puffy under-eye area etc. People tend to become very self-conscious of these changes, and accordingly, invest more in skincare or makeup.

Enter cosmetic acupuncture, which claims to help reduce the signs of aging. The goal of the acupuncture treatment is to improve the flow of the Qi through the body, and improve the production of collagen.

During my facial acupuncture treatment, I was treated to a refreshing guasha session. Then, 20-50 tiny needles were inserted not only in my face, but various sections of my body as well. Points are chosen depending on my specific needs and goals. This was followed by a rejuvenating facial mask session.

Each treatment usually lasts around 90 minutes. It is recommended that you get 5-10 treatments to start seeing results, but it is all dependent on the severity and age of the patient. While botox and fillers work instantly, it’s going to take multiple treatments of cosmetic acupuncture to see full results.

I feel like cosmetic acupuncture is also a more natural and less invasive procedure. Furthermore, unlike cosmetic surgeries, cosmetic acupuncture actually treats the causes of aging by creating micro-traumas in the skin. It is a lot less expensive than botox of fillers, and you can check if it is covered by your work insurance.

Main Advantages of Cosmetic Acupuncture

  • Wrinkle Correction

  • Plumping Power

  • Smooth Complexion

  • Scar Reduction

  • Reduces Puffiness

  • Tightens Pores

  • Delays the aging process

Please check with your healthcare practitioner if this is a suitable procedure for you.

How sustainable cosmetic acupuncture is depends also on lifestyle factors. It’s important to make changes in terms of maintaining a healthier lifestyle in terms of diet and exercise. If you continue to feel encouraged and see results, you also should try to continue with maintenance sessions.
